Introducing....Dawud Anyabwile to 365

The year was 1980…the comic X-Men 135…the title “Dark Phoenix Saga”! This was the breakthrough comic for me (I was hooked). I became a very avid reader of comic which later allowed me to progress to novels and other literary works. However, my beginnings came from a love affair with comics. ONLY ONE THING…there were not many folk that looked like me as a superhero?! The only ones you could find were Black Panther or Luke Cage, for the most part.

In 1989 something extraordinary happened… (Big City Comics was born!!). Initially presented at the New York Expo, the following year they earned a spot on the Arsenio Hall Show! Dawud Anyabwile and Guy A. Sims are the principle creators of this very influential comic book series. Their names will go down with the likes of Jack Kirby, John Byrne and the great George Perez as prolific illustrators/inkers for comics of our times.

What you’re about to view is an interview I was able to do with Dawud at his recent Exhibit (which, by the way, will be ongoing until June 30th) at the African American Research Library on Historic Auburn Ave in Atlanta .

This Philadelphia native has sold over 750,000 copies and yet this is only a scratch on the future exploits left to achieve. In my opinion, (which in this blog counts for a lot... LOL) every youth, teen, and adult should have this bit of literature in their household. You can purchase previous series as well as future books at www.brothermancomics.com

This is Part 1...

...STAY TUNED for the conclusion!!!
